2nd Solid Symposium
2-3 May 2024, Leuven

Governance of decentralized

systems and

personal data spaces

Welcome

In this session, we will have a look at how to set up the governance of new data platforms either SOLID, decentralized and/or person-centric, and the different approaches to take. We will explore some examples of (data) governance models and collaborations that are starting to emerge in the field of personal data spaces, and in the interactive second part of the session, we will deep dive into the challenges and opportunities.

Posters

Posters about Solid applications in data governance are welcome. Please visit the Symposium's poster session for more details

Organizers

Elfi Goesaert, R&D researcher & project lead at VITO

Juan G. Diaz Ochoa, (WebID), Cheif Scientist at PERMEDIQ GmbH & QuiBiQ GmbH

In collaboration with MyData and the Data Spaces Support Centre.

This slot is distributed in two days dedicated to Solid use cases and data governance in health care. The following are the selected talks:

Part 1 - Friday 3th May, 11:00 - 12:30

Selected Talks

  • MyData(20 Minutes)

    Christoper Wilson & Eric Pol

We will look at how MyData approaches the citizen-centric approach to data sharing, the role of MyData operators (data intermediaries) in this approach, and the overarching governance models.

  • SolidLab(20 Minutes)

    Sander Van Damme[SolidLab,Ugent]

In this talk, we have a look at how ecosystems can be designed and managed to be more citizen-centric. We will look at a decision framework that navigates organisations towards inclusive and socially sustainable governance models.

  • Towards a common approach to consent (20 Minutes)

Dorien Bauwens & Leenke De Donder [Athumi]

Athumi is the first data utility company in Flanders and Europe, and has launched a data collaboration platform based on SOLID (the athumi pod). They have collected insights on how to capture consent and manage data access, and will show the generic patterns that can help the ecosystem approach consent in a more systematic and transparent way.

  •
  • Pitch: Social operative system: a theoretical proposal to manage public illumination – seeking for co-developers who are expert in Solid to implement a pilot project in Barcelona (5 min)

  •

Highlights from the Health Governance session

  • Data cooperatives for health data(15 min)

    Javier Creus [SALUS.COOP]

Changes in the capacities and demands of citizens, data-driven innovations and technological developments in research invite us to reconsider the role of citizens in the healthcare sector, both at individual and collective levels. Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation and Ideas for Change have investigated how such roles can be reconfigured to accelerate research and innovation n healthcare, and thus deliver positive social impact. The goal of the collaboration agreement was to explore the viability of a citizen-driven model of collaborative governance and management of health data

  • Aligning Data Governance models with SOLID technology in a healthcare context(15 min)

    Charlotte De Clerck [VITO]

In the We Are project, health and lifestyle information will be shared through a SOLID platform with overarching access management and governance, with special attention to a participative governance approach. In a study, we analysed different governance models, how they align with the SOLID vision and how they fit in the We Are project. We will discuss the methodology to come to the chosen approach for the We Are project.

Part 2 - Friday, May 3th, 13:30 - 15:00

Co-creating governance assets for Solid implementation

Christopher Wilson, Eric Pol & Michiel De Jong

In this session, participants will collaborate to identify governance challenges that apply to different kinds of Solid implementations and what kinds of governance assets can help to address them. Group work will focus on developing action points and work plans for actually producing specific assets within the community, towards the end goal of facilitating Solid implementation that is diverse and interoperable.
